China Maternal Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate Reduction Study Tour, Sri Lanka |
|
Project ID: ST-003 |
Status: Completed |
The DFID China Health VIII Support Project (HV8SP) was designed to provide technical support to the joint Ministry of Health / World Bank basic health services project, Health VIII. Both projects aim to improve the health status of the rural poor by increasing access to health services. On behalf of the HV8SP, IHP organised this training course and field visit for a dozen senior officials of the Chinese government, who were working at national and provincial levels. The week-long study tour, led by Dr. Reggie Perera, IHP Senior Fellow, provided delegates the opportunity to study the maternal and child health services that have been developed in Sri Lanka, with an emphasis on their conditions in the rural areas. A mixture of class-room lectures by leading national experts followed by field visits in the company of senior IHP staff were used to familiarise the participants with the issues and approaches in Sri Lanka. All elements of the training course were organised by IHP, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, and colleagues at various levels in the health system. |
