Low fertility trends: Causes, Consequences and Policy Options |
|
Project ID: DE-003 |
Status: Completed |
Masters student, Tashya de Silva from University of Sydney, Australia, spent her internship at IHP reviewing the international literature on country experiences with very low fertility. In recent decades, a growing number of countries have experienced sustained low levels of fertility, which are far below replacement level. This has led to policy responses and significant concerns. As Sri Lanka has aready acheived below-replacement fertility, this study reviewed this experience and assessed the likelihood of similar trends occuring in Sri Lanka. Policy responses were also reviewed and suggestions developed for Sri Lanka. Dr. APTL Abeykoon, IHP Senior Fellow, supervised this project. |
