    Sri Lanka Population Projections 2001-2101

    Project ID: DE-001 Status: Completed

Sri Lankas population is beginning to age rapidly with falling fertility and mortality rates. Good understanding of future demographic trends and population structure in this context are of vital importance for future planning and analysis across a wide range of fields. Recognising the importance of up to date population projections, IHP is preparing a new set of population projections for the country with a time horizon of 2101, taking into account the newest data from the National Population Census 2001 and the Demographic and Health Survey 2003. As part of this work, a fresh set of life tables were also prepared. The results were published in late 2006 in, A Population Projection of Sri Lanka, for the New Millennium, 2001 - 2101.
