Abstract: This chapter reviews the empirical research on equity in health systems in Asia, much of which has been informed and motivated by earlier work in Europe. The emphasis is on the findings for developing countries of Asia. The results for the high income Asian economies, such as Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan, typically resemble those for European countries, but it is in developing Asia that significant contrasts with the developed country literature emerge. |
